Area Police
Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
